How
to Help Out
The Western High School
Alumni
Association
The
Western High School Alumni Association would appreciate having your help
with any of the following projects. None is difficult, and you can spend
as much time as you can spare on any of the items listed (except Board
Membership).
JOIN THE BOARD:
Would you
like to serve on the Board of Directors of The Western High School Alumni
Association? We are looking for people who are seriously interested in
the future of The Western High School Alumni Association and willing to
assume responsibility for projects and follow them through to successful
completion.
Of course, this is practical only
for association members living in the Washington
DC area who can attend one meeting a month -- (Tuesdays)
at the Palisades Library in the
MacArthur Boulevard
area,
from September through June, 7:15-9:00 PM. If you feel you can offer this
commitment and are willing to be part of an active, creative group. we
would love to talk to you. In between all the work, we have fun, too!
HELP OUT ON A PROJECT:
We need
volunteers to help in one or more of a variety of tasks. You can phone or
email members and grads to update information; be a host and/or help
organize reunions; fold and stamp the quarterly newsletter; research and
write or edit articles for the newsletter.
You can work from the
comfort of your home and do not have to live in the immediate Washington
area for some tasks. Using a computer and being on the Internet are
helpful but are not required for many tasks.
LOCATE GRADS AND LOST MEMBERS:
We are always
searching for folks who either attended or graduated from
Western. We provide addresses for classes planning reunions and work with
reunion committees to locate people by phoning, researching marriage
records, and using internet searches. People love to be “found”, so this
is a satisfying activity.
LOCATE MEMORABILIA:
It's time to go up to
the attic or down to the basement and look through memorabilia going back
to your days at Western. Perhaps you have family members who
attended Western and you have things that belonged to them.
We are looking for
yearbooks, class rings, photographs, graduation programs, sports event
programs and uniforms, art works, play & dance programs, sports and cadet
uniforms and gear, trophies, books written by or about Westerners --- anything you think might be of interest for
our display at the Charles Sumner School Museum, at 17th & M Sts., N.W.,
dedicated to the history of Washington's high schools. All material is
archivally treated and will be preserved for future generations to enjoy.
You can add to the historical
collection of life in Washington by adding your treasures to our archive
at Sumner. If you are willing to donate memorabilia, send it to the Western High School Alumni Association
Archivist, Myles Johnson, at 1400 Floral Street, NW,
Washington
D.C. 20012. (Tel: 202-829-5426) E-mail: mylesj33@comcast.net
Items from the collection are on display at the
Sumner School
Museum. |
